Senior Linux Support Engineer

Lead the charge in delivering expert Linux hosting support, with a strong focus on WordPress, cPanel, and the tools our customers rely on.

We are unable to accept applicants requiring sponsorship or relocation. This position is only open to UK residents.

Job Description

Zume is a boutique UK web hosting company built on one thing: obsessive, high-quality support. We're small, growing fast, and committed to doing things the right way. As a Senior Linux Support Engineer, you'll take ownership of key systems and support processes.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on real-world usage: WordPress, cPanel/WHM, email, DNS, performance tuning, and site migrations.

Standard hours are 9–5, but we're a 24/7 operation. You'll mostly work days, with flexibility for early, late, or weekend shifts if preferred.

What we're looking for

  • Advanced Linux admin skills (CLI, security, troubleshooting)
  • Deep experience with cPanel/WHM and managing shared hosting environments
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress performance, common issues, and plugin conflicts
  • Excellent communication and customer support skills
  • Ability to lead, improve processes, and mentor junior staff
  • UK-based, ideally able to commute into Coventry on a hybrid basis

Nice to have

  • Experience with other apps like Magento, Joomla, WooCommerce
  • Proxmox/KVM or other virtualisation experience
  • Mail and DNS deliverability expertise
  • Experience in a hosting or MSP setting
  • Scripting (Bash, Python) or config management (Ansible)

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting complex WordPress and cPanel/WHM issues
  • Handling tickets via chat, phone, and email
  • Migrating sites from various platforms (including non-cPanel hosts)
  • Optimising web and database performance
  • Supporting VPS infrastructure and shared hosting systems
  • Troubleshooting WordPress issues, SSL, DNS, email problems, and more
  • Working with cPanel/WHM, and helping with VPS and virtualisation where needed
  • Suggesting ways to improve our tools, docs, and how we work

How to apply

Send an email to [email protected] with your CV and a brief introduction. We would very much appreciate if you could use your own words throughout your application (without the use of AI/ChatGPT!) so we can get a better idea of who you are.
